Artisan & Craft
Rinkurou Kiln (林九郎窯) was established in Hasami in 1960 by Ishimaru Ceramics, founded locally in 1948, as a dedicated workshop for developing a more distinctive style of porcelain rooted in the region’s long ceramic tradition. The kiln is especially known for reinterpreting historic Ko-Imari and sometsuke blue-and-white decoration rather than simply reproducing antique patterns, combining Hasami’s practical tableware heritage with more elaborate brushwork, layered ornament and classical motifs. Today, Rinkurou remains one of Ishimaru Ceramics’ signature lines, with pieces that balance historical reference, decorative richness and forms intended for contemporary everyday use.

Questions About This Piece
Is the silver rabbit design painted by hand?
Yes. Each rabbit motif is hand-applied, so no two plates are exactly alike. That subtle variation is part of its charm.
What size is this side plate best for?
It’s ideal for small dishes—think wagashi, slices of cake, fruit, or appetizers. It also works beautifully as an accent plate on a larger table setting.
Can I use it daily or is it more decorative?
Both. It’s sturdy enough for daily meals, but the silver rabbit detail gives it a refined look that stands out on special occasions.
Does the silver detailing fade over time?
With proper care, the design stays beautiful. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the metallic finish and keep it looking its best.
