Shipping Terms

These Shipping Terms explain how My Japanese World ships your order internationally from Japan, including processing times, customs, delivery expectations, and important customer responsibilities.

1. General Information

All delivery timeframes listed on our website are estimates. Actual arrival times may vary due to customs processing, local postal delays, weather, or other factors beyond our control. Shipping methods and estimated times may be updated periodically based on carrier availability.

2. Order Processing

Orders are processed Monday through Friday (Japan time), excluding Japanese national holidays. Most orders are shipped within up to 5 business days.

If your order contains multiple items shipped from different locations, we may require an additional 3–5 business days to consolidate them.

Once your order has shipped, we cannot change the shipping address or the contents of the order.

3. Shipping Carriers

We ship using reputable carriers, including:

  • Japan Post
  • EMS Express
  • FedEx

The options available at checkout depend on your country and the size/weight of your order. A complete and accurate street address and a valid phone number may be required for successful delivery.

4. When Your Order Leaves Japan

Once the carrier picks up your parcel, it becomes responsible for transport. Any delays, loss, or damage during transit are subject to carrier procedures and available insurance coverage.

Some shipping methods include limited insurance; others may not include insurance at all. If you choose an uninsured method, compensation may not be available in the event of loss or damage.

5. Customs, Duties & Taxes

Your order is shipped from Japan and may be subject to duties or taxes depending on your country’s customs regulations.

5.1 United States (DDP – Delivered Duty Paid)

We ship to the United States on a DDP basis. All duties and taxes are included in the total price shown at checkout. You will not be asked to pay additional customs fees upon delivery.

This approach avoids unexpected charges, especially since U.S. de minimis rules have become more restrictive and may no longer exempt many international shipments from duties.

5.2 All Other Countries (DDU / DAP)

For destinations outside the United States, shipments are sent under DDU/DAP terms. This means your country’s customs office may require payment of VAT/GST, import duties, administration fees, or brokerage charges before releasing your order.

These fees are the responsibility of the customer. Customs regulations vary by country, so please review your local import rules before placing an order.

6. If Customs Fees Are Not Paid

If customs requires payment or documentation and these steps are not completed, the parcel may be returned to Japan, abandoned, or destroyed.

Orders returned or abandoned because duties or taxes were not paid cannot be refunded or replaced.

We encourage customers outside the U.S. to check import thresholds and fees prior to ordering.

7. Delivery Issues

If a parcel is returned to us due to an incorrect address, failure to collect the parcel, missed delivery attempts, or refusal of delivery, we can reship it upon request. Additional shipping fees will apply.

Shipping fees from the original order are non-refundable.

8. Damaged or Missing Items

If your package or any of its contents arrive damaged, please contact us within 10 days of delivery. We may request photos of:

  • The shipping box (outside)
  • Internal packaging
  • The damaged item(s)

If a parcel is visibly damaged at delivery, please ask the carrier to record the damage before accepting it. This helps with successful claims.

9. Shipping Restrictions

Some items may not be eligible for shipping to certain countries due to carrier or customs restrictions.

If a chosen shipping method becomes unavailable after your order is placed, we will choose the closest equivalent and notify you.

Many carriers cannot deliver to PO Boxes, so a street address may be required.
