A Quiet Moment, Shaped by Scent
Japanese incense invites you to pause through a simple act: lighting a stick, letting the flame go out and allowing its fragrance to unfold. The pleasure lies in the scent you choose and the time you give it.
Explore the warm, woody character of sandalwood, refreshing hinoki and tea-inspired fragrances. Mini sticks, short sticks and spiral incense offer different forms to enjoy, while selected gift sets pair fragrance with a ceramic dish and holder.
Choose by fragrance, format and the objects you would like alongside it. Each product page sets out the contents, included accessories and available specifications, so you can select a single scent or a gift set with confidence.
Choosing & Enjoying Incense
Fragrance, format and the practical details of your incense ritual.
Which incense fragrance should I choose?
Choose sandalwood if you enjoy warm, woody fragrances, or hinoki for a refreshing scent inspired by Japanese cypress. Tea-inspired options include matcha and green tea blends. Read the individual scent description: each brand interprets these fragrance themes differently.
What is the difference between sticks and spirals?
They are different incense shapes and require a suitable holder or support for their format. Mini and short sticks have a straight form; spiral incense has a coiled form. Fragrance, quantity and burning time depend on the individual product.
Is an incense holder included?
Contents vary by product. The RYOKAN OMOTENASHI and YADORI sets include a matte black Mino ware ceramic incense dish with a holder. Check the contents on each product page before ordering; a dish or holder is not included with every incense product.
How long does the incense burn?
Burning time varies with the incense and the conditions in which it is used. Refer to the product page and supplied instructions for any stated duration. A burn time is not specified for every product.
How should I use and store incense?
Follow the supplied instructions. Use a suitable holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface that catches the ash, in a ventilated room away from draughts and flammable materials. Never leave burning incense unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. Let the holder and ash cool before handling. Store unused incense away from sunlight, heat and moisture.
