Rinkurou Kiln (林九郎窯) was established in Hasami in 1960 by Ishimaru Ceramics, founded locally in 1948, as a dedicated workshop for developing a more distinctive style of porcelain rooted in the region’s long ceramic tradition. The kiln is especially known for reinterpreting historic Ko-Imari and sometsuke blue-and-white decoration rather than simply reproducing antique patterns, combining Hasami’s practical tableware heritage with more elaborate brushwork, layered ornament and classical motifs. Today, Rinkurou remains one of Ishimaru Ceramics’ signature lines, with pieces that balance historical reference, decorative richness and forms intended for contemporary everyday use.

town of Hasami in Nagasaki Prefecture. The area has been producing
