All orders placed through MyJapaneseWorld.com (“we,” “us,” “our”) are shipped from Japan to the shipping address provided by the customer (“you,” “your”). By placing an order, you agree to the shipping conditions outlined in this Shipping Terms section, which forms part of our Terms of Service.

1. General Shipping Terms

1.1
All delivery dates and timeframes displayed on our website are estimates only and are not guaranteed. Actual delivery times may vary due to carrier operations, customs clearance, local postal conditions, or other factors beyond our control.

1.2
Shipping availability, carrier options, and delivery timeframes may vary by destination country. We reserve the right to modify available shipping methods, processing times, and delivery estimates at any time without prior notice.

2. Order Processing

2.1
We process orders during regular business days in Japan (Monday–Friday, excluding national holidays). Orders typically require up to 5 business days for processing before shipment. Certain items may require additional processing time, which will be indicated on the relevant product page when applicable.

2.2
Orders containing multiple items may require additional time for consolidation from different locations. Consolidation may extend processing time by 3–5 business days or more.

2.3
Once an order has been shipped, we cannot change the shipping address, shipping method, or the contents of the order.

3. Shipping Carriers

3.1
We use one or more of the following third-party carriers (without limitation) to ship your order:

  • Japan Post
  • EMS (Express Mail Service)
  • FedEx

3.2
The specific carriers and shipping methods available at checkout depend on your destination, the size and weight of your order, and current carrier restrictions.

3.3
You are responsible for providing a complete and accurate shipping address and a valid telephone number where required. We are not responsible for delays, misdelivery, or non-delivery resulting from incomplete or incorrect address information.

4. Transfer of Risk

4.1
Risk of loss or damage to the products passes to you when the parcel is collected by the carrier from our facility.

4.2
We are not liable for delays, loss, theft, or damage that occurs after the shipment has been handed over to the carrier. In such cases, any recourse lies with the carrier and any applicable insurance coverage.

4.3
Insurance coverage, if any, depends on the shipping service selected at checkout. If you select a shipping method that does not include insurance or includes limited insurance, you acknowledge and agree that any loss or damage may not be reimbursed or may only be partially reimbursed according to the carrier’s policies.

5. Customs, Duties & Taxes

5.1
As orders are shipped from Japan, all international shipments are subject to the import laws and regulations of the destination country, including but not limited to customs inspections, duties, taxes, and related fees.

5.2 United States (DDP – Delivered Duty Paid)

We ship orders to the United States on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) basis. Due to changes in United States customs practice, including the effective removal of broad de minimis exemptions for many types of imports, we include applicable customs duties and import taxes in the price you pay at checkout.

For shipments to the United States:

  • All applicable customs duties and import taxes are included in your checkout total.
  • You will not be charged additional duties or import taxes at the time of delivery.

5.3 Countries Outside the United States (DDU / DAP)

For destinations outside the United States, orders are shipped on a Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) or Delivered At Place (DAP) basis.

This means that:

  • Any import duties, VAT/GST, customs clearance fees, brokerage fees, and similar charges imposed by your local authorities or carrier are your responsibility.
  • These charges may be collected by customs, your local postal authority, or the carrier before or after delivery.

5.4
We do not control and cannot modify customs decisions, tax rates, or import regulations. You are solely responsible for confirming that the products you purchase may be lawfully imported into your country and for paying all related charges.

6. Customs Refusal, Abandonment & Unpaid Duties

6.1
If you refuse to pay required customs duties, taxes, or fees, or fail to complete any customs procedures necessary for delivery, the shipment may be:

  • Returned to Japan at significant cost;
  • Abandoned or destroyed by the carrier or customs authority; or
  • Otherwise disposed of according to local regulations.

6.2
As these circumstances are outside of our control and often result in non-returnable, damaged, or destroyed goods:

Orders that are returned, abandoned, or destroyed due to refusal to pay duties or taxes, or refusal or failure to complete customs procedures, are not eligible for refunds or replacements.

6.3
All associated costs resulting from such refusal or failure—including, but not limited to, return shipping fees, customs handling fees, carrier surcharges, and administrative costs—may be deducted from any discretionary refund that we may, in our sole discretion, choose to offer. We are not obligated to issue a refund for refused, abandoned, or destroyed shipments.

7. Delivery Issues

7.1
If a shipment is returned to us due to circumstances such as:

  • An incomplete or inaccurate shipping address;
  • Failure to receive or collect the parcel from the carrier or customs office within the required timeframe;
  • Repeated unsuccessful delivery attempts; or
  • Refusal of delivery for any reason not related to carrier error;

We may, at our sole discretion, offer to reship the order. You will be responsible for any additional shipping costs and associated fees incurred for reshipment.

7.2
Shipping fees paid at checkout are non-refundable. This applies in all cases, including but not limited to delayed deliveries, refused deliveries, and returned shipments.

8. Damaged or Missing Items

8.1
If your order arrives damaged or with missing items, you must notify us within 10 days of the delivery date. You may be required to provide:

  • Your order number;
  • Photographs of the external packaging;
  • Photographs of the internal packaging; and
  • Photographs of the damaged item(s), if applicable.

8.2
Failure to notify us and provide the requested documentation within the specified timeframe may result in the denial of any claim for replacement, refund, or compensation.

8.3
If a parcel appears visibly damaged at the time of delivery, you are encouraged to request that the carrier record the damage immediately or to file a damage report before accepting the package. Acceptance of a visibly damaged parcel without filing a report may affect your ability to claim compensation from the carrier.

9. Shipping Restrictions

9.1
Certain products may be subject to shipping restrictions, including limitations on specific materials, sizes, or destinations, due to carrier policies, customs regulations, or local law.

9.2
If a shipping method selected at checkout becomes unavailable or impracticable after an order is placed, we reserve the right to substitute a comparable shipping method or carrier. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of any such changes.

9.3
We do not ship to PO Boxes in regions where carriers do not permit delivery to PO Boxes. In such cases, a physical street address is required.
